I understand why people are so upset about the new numbers after eight years of NuWho, even though I personally don’t really care. Still, the new Doctor (if he even is a new one) is already labeled as 8.5 in my mind, purely to avoid confusion.

I wonder how much rage the fandom could muster if the next regeneration were actually a woman… a lot of minds would get blown…

I get what you’re saying about the DW canon but I’m not down with the renumbering of the doctors. It’s kind of like the difference between “timey-whimey” and “fixed point in time.” There are a few things in the series that should be fixed (the Doctor is from Gallifrey, his TARDIS is a blue box, he has had 11 incarnations so far in this particular order) and everything else can be free and loose and canon-less.

I’d prefer to have Paul McGann show up in the special in his new costume (which is much better than the old, foppish one, in my opinion, but might cause an uproar amongst other fans) than add in a brand new Doctor. In any case, it’ll be interesting to see what happens!

I was about to type “please tell me you made that up”, but as a follower of WTFfanfiction, I seriously doubt that ._.
Still, I’d take weird fanfic over a shitstorm any day. Even the most disturbing fanfiction still is some kind of compliment, even if I don’t want to meet the author in person, ever^^

I don’t think the creators read this on purpose, but of you are someone who uses the internet for more than Amazon and email, you are bound to stumble upon something like the Moffat hatestorm at some point. It’s virtually impossible to be on Tumblr and avoid anything that has something to do with a major fandom, and I think the same goes for most sites, even WordPress, which is still much more civilised than anything I’ve seen so far. With a fandom as big as Doctor Who’s, I doubt anyone involved is still oblivious towards this issue.
Also, I think as a modern writer, you are required to keep in touch with your fanbase at least a little, or else you don’t get very far. And even the most calm and civil discussion on your blog or website will inevitably turn into a flamewar if only one moron finds you.
*sighs* I wish there was a way to zap those people from afar whenever they make a dumb comment. Maybe then the would learn…?

This, and having erotic fan-fiction written starring your characters, Care Bears, and a jar of Nutella, but that’s getting off-topic.

I tend to assume that the creators don’t read the fans’ bitching and moaning. I wouldn’t. I’d be interested in what people were saying about my work if it was constructive and presented in a calm, reasonable way, but there’s no point even listening to what most people rant about when it comes to fictional characters/worlds/whatever. Nobody wins, here.
