Only in Hot Fuzz…

Standard

…does the joke “Two cops walk into a bar…” end with a shootout, a police mutiny and a bear trap falling on someone’s face…

But I’m being random again :)

I just realised, by this time next month, I’ll be ready to move out. Wow. That is… sooner than I thought. Kind of.

I mean, I shouldn’t complain, what with my parents being so nice and generous and all, but there are some things I’m really gonna miss. Like eating dinner at midnight. Or watching TV all day without anyone complaining. Or being casually naked when it’s just too hot for clothes. Like today (and living in what is essentially an attic doesn’t help, either). I mean, we are pretty comfortable being around each other in our birthday suits (c’mon, you’re listening to the ramblings of someone who spent her entire life vacationing at nudist resorts), but I still think standing in the kitchen topless to make coffee would seem a little odd, even to my family.

Then again, there are perks to living with the weirdos again. Like movie nights with the dumbest flicks imaginable. Whole nights of gaming and generally being silly with my brother. Having a cup of coffee with my mum, then talking so long that the coffee gets cold before we drink it. Sneaking up on my dad when he’s playing card games on the computer, scaring the crap out of him because he doesn’t see or hear anything when he’s focussed on his games XD

Gah, I’m really torn between being happy I’ll be closer to home again and being sad because I have to give up my independence :/

On other enws, Camp July is approaching, and, as usual, I have no idea what I’m gonna do. I have two options, both are second drafts of previous NaNo novels, and both sound equally enticing *sighs*

I guess I’ll just flip a coin on the 30th and see what happens.

The suspense is killing me @.@

Standard

Waiting for the aptitude test to begin*. I did expect competition, but not a whopping five hundred other applicants *gulps*

Well, I won out over six hundred others once before, I can do it again. I think.

…okay, last time it was all about writing creatively and being a good storyteller. This time, there’s gonna be a pop quiz about all things politics. Uhm… not good? I don’t exactly suck at that, but seeing as everyone else apparently prepared for this test by reading every newspaper available for a month and reading up on German history, I have no idea how much of a chance I stand against them. I don’t even watch the news on TV every day T_T

(I do get a selection of news articles, yes, but mostly about writing-/literature-related stuff. How the fuck am I supposed to know where exactly in South America the Orinoco river is?!)

Why, OH GOD WHY am I the only freaking person winging this thing?!

…all right, I think I’m okay again. Just needed to rant a bit, distracting myself from my apparent lack of general knowledge (…hehe… “General Knowledge! *salutes*”). Wouldn’t look so great if I started running around in circles, screaming… or laughing like a maniac, who knows.

So Bad It’s Good #1

Snakes On A Plane. How can a film with about the dumbest premise possible be so hilariously awesome? XD

I, personally, think it’s because of Samuel L. Jackson randomly tasering snakes. On a plane. Just in case anyone was wondering what that film is about.

Also, I was planning on posting something writing related this week, but then life came up, and… well, let’s just say at least I got invited to the aptitude tests this week. Wooppee… :D

What is Happening in Istanbul?

Standard

Holy… okay, this is horrible. People need to know. We had a similar incident like that at the park about a year back, when German Railways tried to cut down centuries old trees to build a new train station. The use of teargas and water cannons was similar, but at least we all knew and could react. This is why I reblog. People need to be aware. When someone is calling for support in a situation like this, how can we not try and help, if only by spreading the word? ~ ~ ~ €dit: Just read an article in one of the biggest German newspapers, and they just wrote about “12 injured”. Not a word about people ending up dead or in critical condition because they just wanted to be heard. I don’t even… how is this happening, today, in a country that claims to be a democracy?!     | -Ricarda  (WordPress screwed up my format, that’s why this looks a bit wonky…)

İnsanlık Hali

To my friends who live outside of Turkey:

I am writing to let you know what is going on in Istanbul for the last five days. I personally have to write this because at the time of my writing most of the media sources are shut down by the government and the word of mouth and the internet are the only ways left for us to explain ourselves and call for help and support.

Last week of May 2013 a group of people most of whom did not belong to any specific organization or ideology got together in Istanbul’s Gezi Park. Among them there were many of my friends and yoga students. Their reason was simple: To prevent and protest the upcoming demolishing of the park for the sake of building yet another shopping mall at very center of the city. There are numerous shopping malls in Istanbul, at least…
